Shanghai Unicom's 4G base stations achieve seamless coverage throughout the entire region of Shanghai by the end of the year
Jiefang Daily (reporter Wu Weiqun): Shanghai Unicom gave its power to build a "broadband China". Today, the reporter learned from Shanghai Unicom that up to now, 6500 4G base stations have been built by Shanghai Unicom. Through a third-party comparative test, the coverage, voice quality, data rate and other indicators of 3000 key areas (offices, transportation hubs, CBD office buildings, etc.) in the city are comprehensively leading. It is expected that by the end of 2015, the number of 4G base stations will reach 8000, achieving seamless coverage throughout the entire region of Shanghai.
It is understood that China Unicom 4G adopts a mixed networking mode, with multiple network modes of FDD LTE, TD LTE, WCDMA, and GSM working together, with a maximum internet speed of up to 150Mbps. Hybrid networking has obvious advantages. China Unicom's 4G network automatically drops back to the 3G WCDMA network when users make phone calls, allowing for simultaneous voice calls and network connections with a peak rate of up to 42Mbps. Therefore, while maintaining first-class call quality, it also feels very smooth when using WeChat, Weibo, and even video.
According to reporters, at the beginning of the commercial use of China Unicom's 3G network, only 24 overseas cooperative operators were allowed to roam. Since the commercial use of China Unicom's 4G network, as of May 2015, China Unicom has opened international roaming services for 590 operators in 251 countries and regions, doubling the number of roaming countries tenfold. At the same time, starting from May 1st of this year, China Unicom will comprehensively reduce the international data roaming service fee, with the standard fee reduced to 5 yuan, covering more than 80 popular outbound tourism destination countries and regions in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, including Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the UK, France, Germany, the United States, Canada, Russia, and Brazil. It is applicable to all roaming networks and does not need to be customized. When the traffic is used up, it can be automatically stacked and capped at 80 yuan per day. For the same traffic, the adjusted new tariff has decreased by over 80% compared to the previous tariff; In addition, for users with high demand for data traffic, China Unicom also upgraded the 66 yuan visit data roaming daily package and the 166 yuan visit data roaming monthly package on May 1st. While keeping the cost unchanged, the in set traffic increased by 80% in one step, and the traffic beyond the included traffic in these two packages was uniformly reduced to 0.002 yuan/KB.
